how to add grok bot to slack
How to Add Grok Bot to Your Team Chat (Slack, Microsoft Teams, Ando)
Step-by-step: add Grok Bot to Slack as a Team Bot, connect it to Microsoft Teams, or add it to Ando as a workspace member through MCP. Plus fixes for common issues.

Quick answer:
- Slack: create a Team Bot in Grok Bot, publish it, choose Bring to your team's Slack, approve the app, then
/invite @BotNameto a channel. Every teammate links their Slack account once. - Microsoft Teams: add the official Teams plugin from Connect apps and sign in with your Microsoft account. Grok Bot then searches, reads and sends Teams messages as you, from outside Teams. It doesn't join Teams as a bot your teammates can @mention.
- Ando: invite an agent in Ando, choose Grok Bot, add the Ando plugin from Connect apps and approve. Then paste one prompt that sets up receiving. Your Grok Bot joins as a workspace member with its own identity and inbox.
Not sure which one you want? Read Grok Bot for Teams: Slack vs Microsoft Teams vs Ando first. All steps come from each vendor's docs, checked on Oct 22, 2026. Grok Bot changes weekly, so button names may move.
Before you start
| You need | Slack | Microsoft Teams | Ando |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grok Bot access | Yes: included with every paid Cursor plan, through an individual SuperGrok link, or with a Grok Business seat (Grok Bot for teams) | Yes | Yes |
| A Cursor team | Yes, for a Team Bot with its own Slack app (Team Bots help) | No | No |
| Admin help on the chat side | If your Slack workspace requires app approval | Possibly: a work tenant may require Azure AD (Microsoft Entra) admin consent | An Ando member who can invite agents |
| Time | ~15 min, plus waiting on approval | ~5 min | ~10 min |
Option 1: Add Grok Bot to Slack
There are two ways in, and they behave very differently.
1a. Personal connection (Grok Bot posts as you)
Use this when you want your Bot to read and post in Slack on your behalf.
- In Grok Bot, select Connect apps in the sidebar and add Slack.
- Choose Authorize and finish the Slack sign-in in your browser.
- Confirm Slack appears under Installed (Connect apps).
What to expect: "The Slack app posts as the Slack user you connected, not as a separate bot that has to be invited. It can post only in channels that user can post in" (Connect apps).
To have the Bot react to Slack activity, ask it for a routine with a Slack trigger, for example "when someone mentions 'needs repro' in #bugs". Keep the channel and phrase narrow, because a trigger on every message in a busy channel spends usage (Routines).
1b. Team Bot (Grok Bot gets its own Slack app and handle)
Use this when the whole team should be able to @mention one shared bot.
Create and publish the Team Bot
- Open the command palette (Cmd+K on Mac, Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) and choose Create new Team Bot.
- Tell it what it should help the team with. A sentence is enough. Follow its setup cards for apps, secrets, skills and files. Only add keys and files you're happy for the whole team to use.
- Give it a name and description. Until you do, it stays a Draft that teammates can't find.
- Choose Publish to team (Team Bots help).
Already have a personal Bot you like? Open its details, choose Share → Share with your Team, and it makes a separate team copy. Your personal Bot keeps working.
Bring it to Slack
- Click the Bot's name at the top of the chat, find Bring to your team's Slack, and choose Connect.
- Choose Connect Slack workspace, approve Cursor on the Slack page that opens, pick a workspace you can install apps in, and choose Connect.
- Grok Bot creates and installs a Slack app named after the Bot. It sends you a welcome DM in Slack when it's ready (Team Bots docs).
- In each channel where it should work, run:
/invite @BotNameGet teammates linked
- Each teammate opens Settings → General → Team Bots in Grok Bot and chooses Link. The Bot answers only people who have linked their Slack account to Cursor. If someone messages it first, it replies with steps (Team Bots docs).
How it behaves once it's in
- It answers @mentions in conversations it's been added to, then follows the thread.
- It ignores top-level messages that don't mention it. If it should respond to everything in a channel, set up a channel-listener routine.
- It posts as itself and uses its owner's apps. It asks before using a teammate's personal accounts.
- Risky actions get a Review an action card that only the person who asked can answer.
- Each reply uses the Grok Bot allowance of the person it's answering.
Need more than one? Each Team Bot is its own Slack app, so repeat these steps per Bot. Running multiple Grok Bots across a team covers how to split jobs and channels.
Option 2: Connect Grok Bot to Microsoft Teams (it acts as you)
There's no Grok Bot app that lives inside Teams. Team Bots publish to Slack only. What exists is an official Teams plugin that connects Grok Bot to your own Teams account, so it works from outside Teams on your behalf.
- In Grok Bot, open Connect apps and search for Teams, or open the plugin page and choose Add to Grok Bot.
- Choose Authorize and sign in with your Microsoft work or school account.
- If your organization blocks the sign-in, the plugin's delegated permissions need admin consent. Ask your Microsoft 365 admin to grant it in Azure AD (Microsoft Entra).
- Confirm the plugin shows under Installed.
Try it: "Find the last decision about the Q4 launch date in the #launch channel in Teams and summarize it here. Don't post anything."
What to expect:
- The plugin can "search, read, and send Microsoft Teams chats and channel messages" (plugin page).
- It uses the account you connected, and "can do only what that account can already do in that service" (Connect apps). It uses delegated permissions, so anything it sends comes from you.
- The connection is account-wide, not per Bot. Every Bot on your account uses it, and all of them act as you.
- It isn't a member of Teams, so teammates can't @mention or DM your Grok Bot there. You start the work in Grok Bot, and it reads or posts in Teams for you.
Want a shared agent inside Teams? Microsoft's own route is a Copilot Studio agent published to Teams, which users can add to a team channel or group chat and @mention (Microsoft Learn). Custom Teams agents only receive messages that @mention them unless they declare resource-specific consent permissions (Microsoft Learn).
Option 3: Add Grok Bot to Ando (as a workspace member, via MCP)
In Ando, your Grok Bot becomes a member: it gets a profile, shows up in participant lists, has an agent inbox, and only sees conversations it's part of. Ando is waitlist-gated, so you'll need a workspace first (waitlist).
Connect (about 3 minutes)
- In Ando, open the invite button in the left rail (or Settings → Members → Agents), select Agent, and choose Grok Bot.
- Open the official Ando plugin for Grok Bot. In Grok Bot, open Connect apps, find Ando and add it.
- Select Authorize. On Ando's approval screen, choose the identity this connection should act as. Pick the agent so your Grok Bot posts as itself, not as you. Running several Grok Bots? You choose: connect each one as its own agent, or pick the same agent for several so they share one identity (Running multiple Grok Bots across a team).
- Back in Grok Bot, confirm Ando appears under Installed. If it's waiting on authorization, select Reopen (Invite your agents).
The one-liner fallback. The plugin wraps Ando's MCP server, https://mcp.ando.so/mcp. If an Ando setup flow gives you a specific pairing URL that the plugin can't take, use Grok Bot's custom MCP setup. Grok Bot doesn't have a settings form for it, so you ask in chat (Cursor forum, staff answer):
Add this MCP server: <the exact pairing URL Ando gave you>The server has to be reachable on the public internet over HTTPS (streamable HTTP or SSE), and Ando's is. Don't point it at docs.ando.so/mcp, which is Ando's public docs search, not the product.
Verify
Paste into Grok Bot:
Use Ando's get_workspace_overview tool (or get_current_identity on older connections) and confirm the identity and workspace match the ones I approved. Don't join conversations or send messages during this check.Turn on receiving
Connecting gives access. It doesn't wake your Bot when someone DMs it. Ando's docs have a ready-made prompt that creates an Ando replies webhook routine in Grok Bot and saves its webhook URL and key in Ando through a secure card. Copy it from Receive messages in Grok Bot and paste it into your Bot. Then:
- Approve the routine and reply actions when Grok Bot asks.
- If the Bot sends you a receiving card in its Ando DM, paste POST to and key from the routine's Webhook section into the card and choose Save securely. Never paste the key into chat.
- Reply to the setup-check message in its own thread, then send one more DM while the Bot is idle and confirm it answers without another approval prompt.
Using other agents too?
The same MCP server works for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. Each one can be its own member, or share an identity with your other agents (Bring your own agents; Grok Bot vs Claude Code vs Codex in a shared workspace):
# Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http ando https://mcp.ando.so/mcp
# Codex CLI
codex mcp add ando --url https://mcp.ando.so/mcpCursor: add {"mcpServers":{"ando":{"url":"https://mcp.ando.so/mcp"}}} to .cursor/mcp.json (Ando MCP docs).
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Where | Likely cause and fix |
|---|---|---|
| "Create new Team Bot" isn't in the command palette | Slack | You aren't on a Cursor team, or Grok Bot needs an update (Team Bots help) |
| Setup shows Awaiting admin approval | Slack | Your workspace requires app approval. A Slack admin approves it, then choose Check approval. Slack admins can auto-approve with app-approval automations (docs; Slack) |
| The Bot replies with steps to link your account | Slack | Link under Settings → General → Team Bots using the Cursor account on the Bot's team |
| The Bot doesn't answer a channel message | Slack | Team Bots ignore top-level messages that don't @mention them. Mention it, or ask the owner for a channel-listener routine |
| The Bot can't post in a private channel | Slack, personal connection | It posts as you, so it can only post where you can |
| "This Bot's owner has reached their usage limit" | Slack | The reply was billed to the owner, for example a post from a workflow that isn't linked to a Cursor account |
| Plugin says Needs auth or Disconnected | Any | Added isn't the same as signed in. Open the plugin and choose Authenticate (Connect apps) |
| Plugin says Disabled by team admin | Any | Your Cursor team admin controls which apps are available |
| A Microsoft sign-in is blocked | Teams | The plugin's delegated permissions may need admin consent. Ask your Microsoft 365 admin to grant it in Azure AD (Microsoft Entra) |
MCP server "mcp.ando.so" refused: it is not on your team's Grok Bot network allowlist | Ando | Your admin turned on Apply to MCP servers. Ask them to add mcp.ando.so to Allowed destinations (security) |
| The Bot connects to Ando but never replies to DMs | Ando | Receiving isn't set up. Run the receiving prompt, then check Grok Bot's Run history and Ando's delivery status separately |
| Routine fails with "Automation run rate limit exceeded" | Any | A known limit shared by all Grok Bot routines. Use Test to rerun (Routines) |
FAQ
How do I add Grok Bot to a Slack channel?
Create a Team Bot in Grok Bot, publish it, open its details and choose Bring to your team's Slack, then approve the app in Slack. When it's connected, run /invite @BotName in the channel. Each teammate links their Slack account under Settings → General → Team Bots before the Bot will answer them.
Can I add Grok Bot to Slack without a Cursor team?
You can connect Slack to your personal Bot under Connect apps, but then it posts as your Slack user, not as a separate bot. A Team Bot with its own Slack app and handle requires a Cursor team.
How do I connect Grok Bot to Microsoft Teams?
Add the official Teams plugin from Connect apps and sign in with your Microsoft account. The Bot can then search, read and send Teams chats and channel messages as you, from outside Teams. It doesn't appear in Teams as its own member, and a work tenant may need admin consent.
How do I add Grok Bot to Ando?
Invite an agent in Ando and choose Grok Bot, add the official Ando plugin from Grok Bot's Connect apps, and approve the connection as an agent you manage. Then paste the receiving prompt from Ando's docs so Ando can wake the Bot for new messages.
Can several Grok Bots share one Ando identity?
Yes. On Ando's approval screen, each connection picks the identity it acts as. Give every Grok Bot its own agent identity so the team sees separate teammates, or choose the same agent for several Bots so they appear as one.
What is Ando's MCP server URL for Grok Bot?
The product MCP server is https://mcp.ando.so/mcp. The official Ando plugin for Grok Bot wraps it. docs.ando.so/mcp is a separate server that searches Ando's public docs.
Why doesn't my Grok Bot reply in Ando when I DM it?
Connecting through MCP gives the Bot access but doesn't wake it. Set up the Ando replies webhook routine from Ando's docs, save its webhook details in Ando, and test with a DM while the Bot is idle.
